It’s a story that has become as well known as the name itself - in 1976 Geoff Travis opened a record shop called Rough Trade in West London and the musical culture in the UK would be changed forever. From a revolutionary amalgam of distribution company, record shop and label have sprung 40 years of independent music from the likes of The Smiths, Stiff Little Fingers, The Raincoats, The Fall, The Strokes, The Libertines, Anohni and Warpaint.
Throughout, Rough Trade in all its manifestations has existed and thrived through a culture of collaboration and co-operation, and these 40th Anniversary events, curated alongside the 40th Anniversary Journal published earlier in the year, see some of the most important, treasured, and innovative artists come together to plan a series of collaborative events in some of London’s best venues. These events presented by Eat Your Own Ears promise to be genuine one-off performances, and true testaments to all that is most exciting in music.
